Buchanan County is located in the Cumberland Plateau of Southwest Virginia. We welcome visitors throughout the year to experience our rolling countryside’s abundance of natural beauty.
We have a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities, which includes: four-wheel riding, hunting, fishing, bicycling, hiking, birding and wildlife watching and annual festivals.
We have over 50 miles of designated ATV trails throughout our county, with future plans to intersect our trails with neighboring county trails and also connecting to the Hatfield and McCoy trail.
We currently have two primary trails: The Jewell Valley All Terrain Vehicle Family Trail and the Coal Canyon Trail. The Jewell Valley Trail is located in the Whitewood area near State Route 638 of the county and the Coal Canyon Trail is located near the Poplar Gap Park and Athletic Field off of State Route 83.
Our trails share a mixture of all types of terrain including some creeks, climbs, and muddy bogs! They also share the state and county roads in certain designated areas.
